What a brilliant way to start the week!

Great news this weekend. Afterwards, Rosamund’s highly acclaimed and bestselling second novel, was chosen by amazon.co.uk as the number two editor’s pick for 2011 in fiction. It was also listed in the Sunday Times as their second bestselling fiction title of 2011.

Huge congratulations to Rosamund on two mammoth achievements. We’re very proud and delighted that your book is getting the recognition it deserves!

I have only just discovered Rosamund and finished Afterwards two days ago and I feel bereft.
The concept of the "out of body/angel" experiences is ingeneous. I visited my (dying) mother in intensive care and there were big signs everywhere advising that 'patients could hear you'… and I remember shocking my brother by telling her she didn't have to fight…she had suffered so much…and there was a faint lifting of her eyebrows. She died two days after. So, reading the dialogues between Jenny and her mother was not fanciful for me, not some daft fairy-tale idea. It was extremely moving.
Very clever too – with red herrings. I guessed who the "arsonist" was – but wasnn't completely sure – so was swept along with the intrigue.
The characters were all so plausible and although the story was essentially a sad one, it was also uplifting – the obvious love in the family and the sacrifice of the mother.
      More, more, more please.

I like writing too and am trying to complete my first book – when I read stunning work like this, it is discouraging and at the same time a kind of spur to try and get on with it. The way this story reads, however, makes all the obvious effort that has gone into creating it seem effortless. What a gift you have Rosamund – and please keep sharing it!

      • Thank you so much for your comment Angela, I was very moved by it.
Good luck with your first book – mine took years and many rewrites before it was published, so keep going!
        very best wishes
        Rosamund

I also have just put down Afterwards having got to the last page. Such a stunning, and beautiful poignant story. Rosamund has captured a mothers heart to a tee, in all its elements. She has made the main character of Grace so real its as though she actually does exist!

Wonderful book. Thank you for giving it to us.
